I don't have the latest PC3k UDMA but does that not support incorrect PCB swapping with embedded flash? Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice. ~ Anton Chekov

I saw this update Dec 2008, and I think that this will solve making original and writing to replacement PCB. To me, this implies that they are reading SA area, and using data on SA to make ORIGINAL ROM w/adaptives.

I already know how to repair original PCB when embedded is corrupted or damaged. Sometimes is faster to solder chips than to source or order PCB. WD Marvell ROYL series don't when corrupted or damaged. I solved this problem already, so I know how to fix PCB, but now I like to know how to make original ROM from SA area on WD ROYL. This is strictly an academic exercise at this point.

is there any modification in the pcb can be done to deal with external rom
Hi all, I hope somebody can point me in the right direction. I have a ST3500418AS that worked for about 9 months, and died suddenly after a simple reboot. Not sure what happened, but I didn't abuse the disk in any way.
I tested it with Seatools, and this is the result:
Model: ST3500410AS
Firmware Revision: CC34 SMART - Pass 12/25/2009 10:23:10 PM Short DST - Started 12/25/2009 10:23:17 PM Short DST - FAIL 12/25/2009 10:23:47 PM SeaTools Test Code: AEA8DBE0
Attached is the sound it makes on startup (I amplified it a lot). Thanks!

Anybody? I forgot to mention, BIOS recognizes it after a long delay with HDD led on, but with 0GB size. Could this be a firmware problem, like on the 7200.11 models?
Thanks.

That info is from the PCB. is the data important ? ZeBong

New subject: Re: Seagate 7200.12 ST3500418AS fail to start
I agree with Zebong it is Firmware Problem.

zebong wrote: That info is from the PCB. is the data important ?

I'd prefer no to send the disk, as it contains my personal data, pictures, etc. OTOH, I have backup.
My question is more about what happened, could it be a firmware fault or (listen to the audio sample) is it a motor failing.

New subject: Re: Seagate 7200.12 ST3500418AS fail to start

Finally I RMA'd the disk and they send me a refurbished one, but with new firmware: CC37 However, I'd still like to know what was wrong (listen to the audio sample, please). Thanks.

similar failure like 7200.11, it belongs to firmware failure and can fix. Hitachi Travelstar 80GB laptop drive. The owner got the computer from his former work...so no longer able to access support. Encryption is guardian encryption anywhere...

His wife has all her pics of kids and other non-replaceable files on this drive w/ no backups. Please Help.
when booting off of hard drive, the encryption software launches. I have the password and the drive opens, but windows is corrupted from an attempted upgrade and the computer stops at cannot find os.

how can i recover the files after the drive starts up and decrypts? or is there a way to decrypt them as a secondary drive. I have tried EASUS DRW Pro with a sata/ide to usb block and the drive is not recognizable. Also unable to initialize the drive.

thanks, firesaibot

New subject: Re: encrypted drive on boot-have password-missing os
Try and get a Guardian Boot CD (if they make one)to see if you can decrypt the drive that way.
If they have one it should boot from the CD, and see you have a Encrypted drive on the system, and you may be able to put the password in there and decrypt the entire drive.

This drive needs professional tools in order to unlock this drive. You will need to get your friend to have proff of ownership of this drive then a professional DR company can unlock it for you. Nobody here will tell you how to do this yourself becasue we see too many drives with password locked that come in that people can not prove they are their drives. Get ownership then someone can help you to unlock this drive. It should not cost a lot to do this job if the drive really belongs to your friend.

News: 206 I don't know the guardian software but what would happen if........... You prepare the same windows laptop with a clean install on a different hard drive. Then you mount the encrypted drive on a usb port. Install the encryption software on the bootable drive. Attempt to open folders on the encrypted drive using the known password.
HDP725050 GLA 360 - 500GB Hi to all, Have this disk that the first it looks like a motor stuck. When i open it i see that the motor was not stuck, them i give power with the disk open and help the spindle to spin. Close the lid , take to the UDMA and try to power it it spin but no ID. I notice that the PCB was a little "HOT" in the red box in the pictures. Any help will be great. Regards _________________ ZeBong I have seen similar but in .11 1.5TB seagate. The spindle is damaged and requires more power to spin than the pcb was designed. If the damage lets the axis to vibrate enough than the eccentricity is the additional problem. If the vibration is too much the heads can damage as well. Janos Thanks Janos, But in Hitachi platter swap is more difficulty i have sucess in segate in hitachi have to try it. Anyone have sucess in a platter swap like this one ? _________________ ZeBong I could resolve the PCB problem, the spindle was ok, now the disk spin and i could get ID. Today I get the new one how ever with different HW revision. And it doesnot work. Does any one have any advice what to try??? Description: HDD Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9250315AS old one (damaged) SN: 5vc7044B PN: 9HH132-286 FW: 0002SDM1 Date: 10092 new one SN: 5vcbpdje PN: 9HH132-500 FW: 0001SDM1 Date: 10221 The PCB is the same how ever it differs in used components slightly. It uses different chip for the motor control. After swithching the PCD motor runs, how ever the head is seeking. HDD remains undetected. Is there any significant difference in those two revisions or would be possible to change firmware or data disk it self (I have access to the clean room). The question is if the geometry of the disk is he same or not. I would be glad for any information I have valuable data on it. How ever I don't want to spend the fortune on the profesional data recovery. I will be glad for any information Best regards Pepa If after exchange PCB hdd did knocks sounds, HM HM by terminal that could be meaning damage inside HDA, the cause the damage shorcut could be pass into MHA " Magnetic head Assmebly" , on this way u need a DR Lab for that process ,f i no knocks " partial recalibration" so that should me mean un need wrote adaptives info into u Donnor PCB u could check that too by terminal Regards Hi, It is the new architecture, so it won't emit HM messages.
